A seventh-grade student from Mountain Home Junior High School died following an all-terrain vehicle accident Friday evening.

Ryder McRae, 12, was driving on Midnight Blue Way near Airbase Road past the Highway 51 junction when he lost control of the ATV, according to Deputy Mike Gelalia from the Elmore County Sheriff's Office.

The deputy said McRae tried to take a turn at a high rate of speed, lost control and was thrown off the vehicle. He sustained significant head injuries in the crash and was taken by ambulance to Elmore County Medical Center.

McRae was later flown by air ambulance to the trauma center at St. Alphonsus Regional Medical Center in Boise where he later died from his injuries.

Pioneer Federal Credit Union established a memorial fund this week in Ryder's memory. People may submit donations to the Ryder McRae Memorial Fund at any of the credit union's branch offices.
