Family gathering reunites father, son after 24 years

Saturday, September 11, 2010
Among the members of the Kite family reunion were, from left, D.R. Kite, his grandson, Zachary, his long-lost son, Rex, and Rex's grandfather, Rex C. Kite.

There were "lots of hugs and kisses" and plenty of photos taken during the Kite family reunion in Mountain Home Aug. 15, as Dilbert "D.R." Kite was reunited with his son, Rex, whom he hadn't seen in 24 years.

D.R. and Rex's mother had been married many years ago, but when the couple separated, she left with Rex and disappeared. D.R. never knew what happened to his son.

But a few months ago, on a whim, Rex's grandmother, Rose Niedling of Mountain Home, began a search on the computer for her grandson and found him.

That set the stage for a very special family reunion.
