High school paper launches website

Tuesday, September 7, 2010

Sensing the rise in school papers with websites, Mountain Home High School's student newspaper, Tiger Tribune, announced the launch of their website, www.tigertribuneonline.org, Sept. 1.

The site is dedicated to constant updates for current students and also serves as an easily accessible port for past and future students to stay connected to the school.

Tiger Tribune Online is the result of months of work for adviser Travis DeVore, who purchased the domain and began working on the site in June. Shortly after the high school began classes, DeVore's students worked with the layout and began writing stories to publish. Students were pushed to quickly release a website that could be timely, user-friendly, and look professional.

Featured items of the site include weekly polls, constantly updated sports results with pictures, a featured student life photo section, and a "submit your own" section where anyone wishing to submit stories, ideas, and photos can do so by sending an e-mail to submit@tigertribune.org.

DeVore, along with Editor-in-chief Melodie Lettkeman and online manager Alexis Rios, have already begun the process of selling ad space on Tiger Tribune Online, offering static ads for $25 and dynamic ads for $30. Anyone wishing to obtain an advertising contract can e-mail ads@tigertribune.org.

A feature unique to the online experience of journalism is the comments section, where reporters can get instant feedback on their writing. Several students have already taken advantage of the comment section. All comments have to be approved before they appear online.

The Tiger Tribune staff includes: senior Melodie Lettkeman, Editor-in-chief; senior Alexis Rios, Online Manager; junior Brittany Ryan, Print Manager; senior Alessia Martino, Assistant Print Manager; senior Jasmine Acres and junior Hailey Reynolds, Student Life and Culture Editor; senior Bettina Rogalsky and junior Victoria Ferguson, Sports Editors, junior Mckenah Lesko, Photo and Graphic Design Editor; senior Waylon Strobehn and junior Stephanie Harrington, Arts and Entertainment Editors, sophomore Erika Cook, Opinion Editor; and Melissa McFadden, News Editor. Travis DeVore and Susan Martin are the staff advisers, and can be reached at tdevore@tigertribune.org and smartin@tigertribune.org.
