A recent renovation project at the Mountain Home Airport paved the way for new types of aircraft to use the city's airfield.

Upgrades to a long-unused underground fuel storage tank will allow the airport to start carrying jet fuel in addition to standard fuel used by the propeller-driven aircraft based there.

One of two underground tanks at the city airport, the storage facility once held unleaded gasoline for older-generation aircraft. As aircraft evolved and started using 100 octane fuel, demand for the unleaded brand gradually faded, said Mountain Home Public Works Director Wayne Shepherd.
