Crossing successor event begins Aug. 13

Friday, August 6, 2010

Glenns Ferry will celebrate its pioneer heritage with the Three Island Celebration Aug.13-15.

For more than 25 years, Glenns Ferry hosted the annual Three Island Crossing, an event that commemorated the crossing of the Snake River by Oregon Trail Pioneers. The apex of that event was the actual crossing of the river by wagons and horseback riders. But with an aging pool of participants and animals, and lack of interest or time by the younger generation, that activity was suspended after last year's event. As a result, the former crossing event has become Three Island Celebration.

The celebration begins downtown on Friday, Aug. 13, when craft vendors (who locate to the state park for Saturday) begin setting up their booths at 9 a.m. Any vendor wishing to set up a booth can call Becky Hopkins at 591-3904.
