Budget constraints mean brown lawns for schools

Wednesday, August 4, 2010

The Mountain Home School District has received a number of complaints this summer about the condition of its grass on the playgrounds and other areas. Specifically -- a lot of it is brown.

One parent who called the Mountain Home News complained that "my children are going to be playing in dust" at the elementary school they'll attend.

Supt. Tim McMurtrey agreed "wholeheartedly" with the complainants. "It looks terrible," he said.

  • I think the kids can play in a little dust. Never hurt any of them before. If the person wants to pay for the water bill, then maybe watering would be an option during cutbacks. I think the school district has enough on their plate right now with regards to budget cuts, let alone worry over watering the grass.

To whoever called the school and the Mtn. Home News, I hope you read this. Go in and offer to pay the water bill for watering the school grass if you want green grass. That would settle it.

For the life of me I can't figure out why so many people want "everything." What is wrong with people these days.

  • Yeah. I would worry more about why schools cannot pass basic skills tests or why kids do not have books to take home. Worry less about the acres and acres of grass and more about EDUCATION. Dust and dirt never killed anybody. This is Idaho not Florida.

  • A little dust and dirt won't hurt. I was pleasantly surprised that they did not waste the money this summer by watering constantly as they have done in the past.

  • And, seriously, someone actually called to complain that their kids would get dirty? I can think of a lot more things to worry about at the schools than that.

I guess the Mountain Home District will be jumping on this to add to the millions in the levy they got.
