Rare 'armonica' performance set for Friday

Thursday, August 5, 2010
William Zeitler will present a rare armonica performance Friday at the LDS Stake Center.

The unique music associated with Benjamin Franklin's invention, the Armonica, can be heard Friday evening, Aug. 6, in Mountain Home.

The concert by William Zeitler begins at 7 p.m. at the LDS church in Mountain Home 1150 N. 8th East St. Admission is free.

The piano-like instrument uses the same principal as that found by rubbing a wet finger around the lip of a wineglass in order to produce musical tones.

Initially Franklin named the instrument the "glassychord," but soon settled on 'armonica' as the name for his new invention--after the Italian word for harmony, "armonia."
