Great Adventure Race to benefit CSI trail

Friday, July 2, 2010

Part road rally, part scavenger hunt, part skills challenge, the Twin Falls Great Adventure Race on Saturday, July 24th promises to be a fun way to raise money to refurbish the College of Southern Idaho Fitness Trail.

CSI Recreation Director Scott Rogers, who is organizing the event, is hoping that about 50 four-person teams will sign up. Registration can be done in advance or starting at 8 a.m. the day of the race. The staging area will be the CSI Expo Center parking lot. Team members can be men, women, or co-ed. Kids are welcome to be on the team but are not allowed to perform any tasks that require a certain weight limit. Each team must be equipped with a cell phone that receives and sends pictures and text messages so the team can get directions to and from local businesses and parks.

Teams are welcome to participate on bicycles, by cars, or any other way of getting from one place to another. The objective for each team will be to solve twelve clues involving different parks or businesses around Twin Falls, complete a challenge at each location, and then get to the next site.

The team that successfully visits all the sites, completes all the challenges, and gets back to the finish line first wins the grand prize of an 8-person float trip down the Hagerman stretch of the Snake River from High Adventure River Tours. Other prizes, such as an iPod, Magic Valley Speedway tickets, a golf package and dinner at local restaurants will also be awarded from businesses participating in the event.

Other event sponsors include Twin Falls City and County Parks and Recreation, Twin Falls Rotary Clubs, and the Twin Falls Chamber of Commerce and the Ambassadors.

The entry fee is $75 per team. To register an advance or find out more about the event, go online to http://recreative.csi.edu or call Kimberlee Ward at the CSI Gym at 732-6475.
