Two people were injured in a single-car rollover on I-84 at milepost 100 Friday morning.

A female victim from the compact car was taken by air ambulance to St. Alphonsus Regional Medical Center. A male victim was transported by ground ambulance to Elmore Medical Center.

The accident happened shortly before 7 a.m. when the vehicle, for reasons as yet unknown, went off the left side of the westbound lane of the interstate, rolled through the median, and came to rest on its wheels in the right-hand lane of eastbound I-84. A preliminary investigation has led authorities to believe the driver may have fallen asleep at the wheel.

Extrication crews had to remove the victims from the vehicle. Both were wearing seatbelts, which authorities said may have saved their lives.

The couple are believed to be from Texas. Their names have not been released at this time.

No further details are immediately available. The accident is under investigation by the Elmore County Sheriff's Office.

The eastbound lane of I-84 was temporarily reduced to one lane while officials cleaned up the scene and remove the vehicle.
