Parks and rec thanks all those who helped with spring soccer

Friday, June 4, 2010

Dear editor:

Parks and Recreation just completed its annual spring soccer league. This year nearly 500 boys and girls competed in seven different levels of play. Teams were divided into 4- and 5-year-old Co-Ed, 6- and 7-year-old boys, 6- and 7-year-old girls, 8- and 9-year-old boys, 8- and 9-year-old girls, 10- to 12-year old boys and 10- to 12-year-old girls.

Each of our teams are coached by volunteer coaches in our community and each team has been graciously sponsored by a local business. If you would be interested in sponsoring one of our teams, please contact Parks and Recreation at 587-2112.

During each soccer game, we have student workers who monitor each game played and score each team on sportsmanship. Categories included are: player, team and coaches' behavior, individual effort, team play, team appearance, team sportsmanship, proper fundamentals and field strategy. At the end of the season, all scores are tallied and a winner is announced for each level.

Parks and Recreation would like to thank those kids, coaches, parents and sponsors who participated. This past season was a huge success.
