Tuesday, June 1, 2010

Wilbur "Shorty" Britten, 82, of Mountain Home passed away on May 31, 2010, at his home.

He will be missed by all who knew him.

Shorty was born on May 30, 1928, in Illinois.

After high school he joined the US Navy and served aboard the USS Wasp until transferring to the U.S. Air Force. His inability to swim outweighed his fear of flying.

He served in Vietnam and Korea. In 1969 he was stationed at Mountain Home Air Force Base until his retirement in 1971.

He married Elise Finn in 1970 and started Shorty's Salvage and Son. He had a great love for junk and helping people.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Elsie.

Shorty is survived by his sister, Darlene Parker. Although he did not have any children of his own, Shorty took to Elsie's boys, Pat and John Finn, who gave him seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Arrangements are under the direction of Rost Funeral Home, McMurtrey Chapel at 10:30 Saturday June 5, 2010.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that in the spirit of Shorty, contributions be made to those in need.
