UPDATE: Three injured in vehicle crash

Friday, May 28, 2010

Three people were injured, one seriously, during a single-vehicle accident Friday afternoon east of Glenns Ferry.

According to initial reports at the scene, five people were in the sport utility vehicle when it left the roadway around 12:50 p.m.

The vehicle flipped over into the median at least once before it landed on its roof.

Rescue crews prepare to transport a person injured in Friday's crash by helicopter to St. Luke Regional Medical Center. An adult and child injured in the rollover were flown to the Boise-based medical center with another taken by ambulance to Elmore Medical Center.

The eastbound lanes of I-84 near mile marker 131 near the city of Bliss were closed for approximately 30 minutes to allow emergency crews to get the people out of the vehicle. Extrication crews from Glenns Ferry were also dispatched to the scene but not needed.

Two of the passengers, including a child, were taken by air-ambulance to St. Luke's Regional Medical Center with another taken by ground ambulance to Elmore Medical Center. The SUVs two other passengers reportedly didn't need immediate medical attention.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation by the Elmore County Sheriff's Department.
