Fire causes $130,000 damage to garage

Approximately $130,000 in damage was caused when spontaneous combustion in a grass pile triggered a fire that destroyed an 1,800-square-foot garage and fitness room on Princess Place off McMurtrey Road last Friday, May 21.

Fire crews were called out at 3 a.m. Friday but the building was fully involved in flame when they arrived. The grass pile where the fire started was adjacent to the building.

Fire officials estimated damage to the building at $60,000 and another $70,000 in contents were destroyed.
