Church agrees to new parking conditions for project

Wednesday, May 26, 2010

The local Catholic church agreed to accept additional conditions in its quest to build a new fellowship hall in the city's downtown area during Monday's city council meeting.

During the public hearing, the council looked at adding a "fee in lieu of parking" provision into the church's request to build the facility next to its existing church.

The new measure follows additional debate over a significant shortage of parking spaces under the city's current ordinance. According to the law, the church needs 134 parking spaces to get a green light for the project. However, a lack of available land in the area limits the church to a 33-vehicle lot.

  • No more then what the Mormons did to get their facility build...not much discussion on that project....umh, I wonder why?

  • Hopefully, NOW Isaac will shut the h_ _ _ up and the project can go forward. However, just curious. How much did the LDS have to pay extra for their new community center off of Airbase Road? I hope they paid for a new signal light that will be need at the intersection of Airbase Road and South Haskett once the center is operational. You're a moron if you all think traffic is not going to become a major issue. Way to go Isaac and the city council on looking out for the community!

  • I don't understand how having $46,000.00 extorted from the Catholic church is going to provide 134 parking spaces.

Maybe next, the city could figure some way to claim sexual misconduct and score a few million bucks, however, the only sexual misconduct here, is the city bending over the catholic church.

  • Very classy comment akbrand...your funny, soo funny that I forgot to laugh. For your information "moron", the money is what the city requested for soo-called lost revenue associated the local business...

I am not in agreement with it, because the city council is extorting money from a NON-PROFIT ORGANIZATION...but it's business as usual in good old boy Mountain Home...Oh did I say that the good councilwoman is the owner and operator of business downtown...LANE'S APPLIANCE...

The second parking study CONFIRMED what the first one already indicated...soo as we can see that was a waste of EVERYONES time. As well as a waste of taxpayer money...this will reflect in the next Mayor/City Council elections.

  • Well, now, befrore you go calling names, you ought to know that it wasn't taxpayers that footed the bill for the "traffic study". The Catholic chuch did.

    No wonder you are dumbfounded.

Don't know what satire is either.

  • i don't see the need for more parking in mountain home. I have never saw a lack of empty parking spaces... anyway i shop in boise for most of my needs even with the high cost of fuel..

  • I wonder how much the city received from the bar across the street from the el rancho lot. They were able to do away with 10 parking spots when that opened up. If parking is such a high priority

    how did that happen.

  • Thank you goodlama2 and gmoney. Hey, city council people, I hope you read these blogs. More and more citizens of Mountain Home are waking up realizing that due to your self-centered, "I'm better than you" mentality, and your constant undermining and lack of civic action this town is dying! Wake up and smell the coffee before it's too late! Why not take the drive to Boise to get the product/merchandise you actually want, even if gas goes to $4-5 a gallon it's still worth it. It's worth driving that distance just to a selection, and most price match. Isaac do you? Not two weeks ago, when I was looking at a freezer. I'm sure we will never see a Lowe's, Home Depot or any other type of appliance or hardware store in Mountain Home. Not with the likes of Councilwoman Isaac on the council or business owners with her mentally. We need businesses to come into Mountain Home, if we are too survive. Shopping at Wal-Mart doesn't cut it. I'm tried of the freak show when I do there. Granted we do not need to open the flood gates, and let every Tom, Dick, and Harry in. But we need to make these area attractive to businesses who do want to relocate to Mountain Home.

  • hmmmm....little confused as to why the City Council would require the Church to pay $46,000 for parking. What is the $46,000 be applied to and how did they come up with such a figure? For those of you that think churches don't belong downtown, well...sorry...the church was here first and the city built around IT! I once went to shop at Lane's Appliance, but they were never very friendly, now I know I definitely will never shop there now.
