City, county spar over dispatch costs

A special meeting involving Elmore County and Mountain Home city leaders last week yielded plenty of discussion but failed to reach a decision on keeping local dispatch services running from potential budget cuts.

The May 12 meeting follows nearly a year's worth of dialog between the city and county as they seek a long-term budget solution for the dispatch agency, which services both the city and county.

During these discussions, city and county leaders looked to avoid significant changes or cuts to these services while staying within budgetary constraints, said County Commissioner Connie Cruser.

  • Don't you wish you only had to pay for 28% of the services and got to use 58%. Gee, 30% for free. Oh, that's right, they are trading county dispatch services for city animal shelter services. There seems to be lots of concern regarding "double taxation". Where does it start and when does it stop. Is it double taxation when you pay city taxes for the shelter and then they charge you for a city dog tag? Facts need to be presented, listened to and definitive decisions made. Ask the elected officials for the truth and task them with doing the right thing.
