Letter to the Editor

Lawson's positions questioned

Sunday, May 16, 2010

Dear editor:

The recent letters supporting Marla Lawson demonstrate the lack of fiscal conservatism in the right wing of the Republican party, the tea party.

What are you conserving, your personal income? If we cut out a form of revenue for the state it makes the state vulnerable to fluctuations in the economy. Haven't they heard of the three-legged stool -- income tax, property tax, sales tax? This is how our state stabilizes its revenue over the years.

Look at sales tax revenues -- they are down significantly, in the present. One letter called for "less taxes and better education." This is an oxymoron -- ask the school districts that are facing reduced budgets and have declared district emergencies.

Marla most definitely said, "I want to make kindergarten voluntary" at the Centerville (Boise County) meet the candidates forum on 4/1/2010. Marla's own words make Roger Hesler a liar!

I don't even understand the comment about who's doing my writing. Who do you think does my writing, Harpers, T. Corder? Again Roger Hesler doesn't know me and he's a liar! I have written my letters to enlighten those of you who have not known the Lawsons for 14 years. The Lawsons have had conflict with my neighborhood over our water association, access to our mailboxes, and repeated shooting that was disturbing the peace. These are not Democratic issues or Republican issues but are good neighbor issues. How will Marla represent two counties and work to solve problems at the state level when she has demonstrated she will not solve problems at the local level?

Marla loves guns all right. The Lawsons have been shooting guns at my subdivision since 1998, disturbing the peace and lowering the property values. This is a "taking" and is actionable in a court of law if we were as overly litigious as the Lawsons are. They have had conflicts with both the liberals and Republicans up here by discharging weapons in proximity to our homes. How would you like that? I own guns and hunt, lawfully. The Lawson's shooting is in disregard for neighbors in the proximity to the sonic boom and flying bullets and is the type of behavior that causes gun control laws in the first place.
