Vote 'Yes' on school levy

Thursday, May 13, 2010

Dear editor:

In the many years that we have lived in Mountain Home and been affiliated with the Mountain Home School District, we have seen many ups and downs.

However, none of them would have had such a long-term consequence as what we are being faced with today.

Our children are our most important assets. Whether we have children or not, it is up to us to make sure that the generations of the future have an education that will lead us into the years to come. The levy that is being proposed by the school district will help bandaid the next year or so, but it by no means is a long-term fix. Educators are losing their jobs everywhere. Good teachers are leaving education careers to find something that will support them and their families. With more students per classroom, teachers are over-burdened and pupils miss one-on-one help.

Those of you who complain about the way things are going, go spend a day or two in a classroom. If you know it all, then why aren't you a teacher or in the education field?

I support the levy. We need to make sure that our next generation is fully educated to meet the demands of the future. The extra programs that keep kids busy and meet their needs promises a bright future for all of us.
