Letter to the Editor

After analyzing record, Lawson beats out Corder

Sunday, May 16, 2010

Dear editor:

In the past couple weeks I have read several letters concerning Mr. Corder's voting record. I decided to do some of my own research. Here is what I found and it only covers some of his voting record, which really disappoints me.

Most of his votes seem like they do not represent the values of the people in his voting area. They most certainly do not represent the values of his party. He says he is a Republican, but I doubt it. He seems to almost never vote with the Republican party. Almost all his votes are on the outside looking in.

There are a couple of other senators who are just like him. They don't vote the values of their party or their constituents.

Take House Bill 94 in the 2009 session. This bill limits the liability for shooting clubs and ranges so they can operate. He was one of only five members of the senate to oppose this bill -- and the only Republican. Shooting ranges are small business, so I thought Mr. Corder would be for them. He's not. I suspect his opposition comes from his anti-gun stand.

There are plenty of other bills as well. In 2008 he voted NO on the Grocery Tax Relief Bill H0588. He's never seen a tax he didn't like. I think that philosophy is attributed mostly to Democrats. I don't understand.

In 2009, Mr. Corder sponsored Senate Bill S1112, which would have expanded regulations for day care centers with as little as four children. Wow! That sure seems like anti-business to me. Most small day care centers need less government intrusion, not more.

Mr. Corder also voted YES to authorize the sale of Garvee bonds in the amount of $82 million, which would have put Idaho in debt that much more (Senate Bill 1186). The last thing we need is more debt. We can hardly afford our bills now.

I could go on and on like this with several other bills but I am sure you get the picture.

Mr. Corder does NOT represent his constituents or Idaho in general. He represents more debt and more regulations.

We need a new senator and that should be Marla Lawson. I am 100 percent sure she can't do any worse. Me, for one, is going to vote for Marla Lawson on the 25th of May for state senator, District 22.
