Tigers' baseball squad picks up four straight victories

It was a good week of baseball for Mountain Home last week as the boys' team picked up four wins.

Mountain Home 4, Buhl 3

The Tigers were outhit by Buhl 8-4 Tuesday but made their hits count as they edged the visiting Indians 4-3 at Tiger Field.

Both teams scored a run in the first inning and Buhl went up 3-1 in the top of the third, the Tigers getting one run in the bottom of the inning.

Mountain Home tied it at 3-3 in the fourth and took the lead in the fifth, with Mountain Home's pitching shutting out the Indians the rest of the way.

"Once again, I'm really pleased with the effort by our pitchers," said Tiger baseball coach Travis DeVore.

"We got a little bit lucky, but took advantage of the hits we got. Brock Morris had a big hit for us, getting a triple that really sparked us."

Brock Morris had a triple and scored two runs, Skyler Podesek had a hit and RBI, Jake Hennessey and Anthony Castillo also had hits and Eric Christiansen and David Bitrick both knocked in runs.

Tom Hennessey pitched the first three innings for the Tigers. Jon McCabe picked up the win with three innings of scoreless relief and Trevor Woodruff pitched a scoreless seventh for the save.

Mountain Home 6, Emmett 0

The Tigers managed to get in one game of their two scheduled Thursday at the Buck's Bag Tourney at Capital High School in Boise. The Tigers downed Emmett 6-0 but rainy weather washed out their second game.

Jared Day pitched a one-hit shutout against Emmett, striking out nine while walking two and hitting two.

Brock Morris continued his hot hitting for the Tigers with two hits, including his third triple of the season. He also had an RBI. David Bitrick also had two hits and an RBI. Skyler Podesek had a double and RBI and Jake Hennessey, Tom Hennessey and Trevor Woodruff also had hits.

Mountain Home 7, Minico 6

The Tigers picked up a 7-6 win over the Minico Spartans Friday at the Buck's Bags Tournament at Capital High School in Boise.

Minico scored all six of their runs in the top of the fourth inning to take a 6-1 lead, but the Tigers tied it with five runs in the bottom half of the inning and scored what proved to be the winning run in the bottom of the sixth.

Devan Wilkinson pitched three shutout innings in relief of Eric Christiansen to get the win.

David Bitrick, Jake Hennessey and Alex Rodriguez each had two hits and an RBI in the game. Bitrick had a double and triple and Rodriguez had two doubles. Trevor Woodruff and Anthony Castillo also had hits. Castillo had a double. Eric Christiansen and Skyler Podesek also knocked in runs.

Mountain Home 7, Madison 3

Alex Rodriguez pitched a complete-game three-hitter as the Mountain Home Tigers downed Madison 7-3 Friday.

The Tigers pounded out 12 hits, led by Eric Christiansen and Kevin Anderson with three each. Anthony Castillo had a double and three RBIs.David Bitrick, Jake Hennessey, Skyler Podesek, Trevor Woodruff and Jake Albright also had hits. Hennessey and Albright knocked in runs and Alex Rodriguez also knocked in two runs.

Capital 6, Mountain Home 5

Mountain Home went into the bottom of the seventh inning, with a 5-2 lead over Capital, but the Eagles scored four runs to pull out a 6-5 victory Saturday afternoon in the Bucks Bags Tourney at Capital.

Eric Christiansen, Alex Rodriguez and Jake Hennessey each had two hits. Christiansen had two doubles and two RBIs and Rodriguez had a double and two RBIs.

Anthony Castillo had a hit and RBI and Kevin Anderson also had a hit.

Trevor Woodruff suffered the loss, pitching into the seventh, with relief held from Jon McCabe.

"I was really proud of our effort at the Bucks Bags tourney," said Coach DeVore. "We definitely had strong pitching performances and had some great hitting all weekend."

The Tigers take a 6-2 overall record into Thursday's home conference game against Emmett and travel to Emmett on Friday.
