Principal's hearing scheduled

Wednesday, March 24, 2010

A "due process" hearing on alleged violations of district policy by Bill McCarrel, the principal at Mountain Home Junior High School, will be held by the Mountain Home School Board on March 30, beginning at 7:30 p.m., in the district office.

McCarrel is on paid administrative leave following an investigation by the school district into possible violations of district policy.

District officials have remained tight-lipped about the allegations, saying only that what McCarrel allegedly did was not criminal and did not involve any students.

  • Are you folks demanding a public hearing really that anxious for news to stop your gossip? That would kill all of your fun in the grocery line, coffee shop and around the water cooler. For those of you who must have someones agony in the open so you can feed off of it...think this through. It is a personnel issue. Do you at your job want your mistakes spread throughout the community without the opportunity for a proper course of action...sorry, I forgot you spend all day at home or lounging around waiting for the next poor soul to take a misstep.

  • When it concerns a school official it is our business!

Unfortunately, since it is a personnel matter, the reason for his paid leave and due process hearing may never be released by the school district.

As far as I am concerned, since it was stated in the last article that it didn't involve students, it isn't our business.

As a public official and one that interacts with this communities future leaders, we have a right to know what "mistakes" have been made. I have to wonder how many students looked up to Mr. McCarrel and are affected by his actions. To me this is not about having a subject to gossip about while standing around the water cooler but discussing events that effect our community. Lord knows if we wanted to gossip, there is a boat load of topics and people we could do that about.

  • So do you think KTVB should know about this and maybe get us some answers. How can I vote for a school bond when the district does not give us straight answers.

  • Guess we'll see of he's back in school monday? If he was cleared you'd think it would be posted somewhere here in the paper.

  • The rumor mill says that he is gone. The vice principal is now the principal.
