Council resists call to hike water rates -- for now

In a special meeting last week, the city council resisted calls for summertime water rate increases but recommended encouraging local residents to conserve water.

Public Works Director Wayne Shepherd initially presented the city council four options to increase water bills during the summer months.

The plans included increases between 15 and 25 percent during peak water usage months along with a progressive summer rate schedule.

    I have to say what I think many have on our minds, how does Mr. Shepherd expect to get more monies out of our pockets when many of us live pay check to pay check? First the City has to lead by example and reduce their water useage before they expect they rest of us to follow suit.
