This aerial image indicates the proposed location of a nuclear power plant southwest of Hammett. The county's comprehensive plan became a stumbling block for the proposed plant due to conflicts in the plan that restrict industrial development in Elmore County to the Simco Road area.

After months of debate leading to recommended revisions to a governing document outlining industrial development in Elmore County, officials will hold a public hearing March 31 to discuss those changes.

Recommended changes to the county's comprehensive plan primarily focus on heavy industrial development within the county, which became a stumbling block for a proposed nuclear power plant southwest of Hammett.

The conflict centers on the plan's economic development section to "encourage and support heavy industrial development" in the Simco Road area north of Mountain Home versus other areas in Elmore County.
