The Feb. 9 public hearing follows a 1.6 percent holdback in state funding ordered by Gov. Butch Otter, forcing the district to cut $300,000 from its current budget by June.

The Tuesday, Feb. 9 hearing by the Mountain Home School Board to solicit public input on possible cuts in current operations has been moved to the junior high commons room, in order to provide more room for patrons to comment.

The hearing will begin at 7:30 p.m. It was originally scheduled to be held in the district's much smaller board room at the district offices.

The event follows a 1.6 percent holdback in state funding ordered by Gov. Butch Otter, which will force the district to cut $300,000 from its current budget between now and June. Last week, the district's school board declared a state of financial emergency as it attempts to deal the the cuts.

Both Supt. Tim McMurtrey and School Board Chairman Jim Alexander said that any and all ideas "are on the table" in terms of finding ways to cut the budget.
