Hearing slated for ideas on school cuts

Thursday, January 28, 2010

The Mountain Home School Board will hold a public meeting Feb. 9, beginning at 7:30 p.m. at the Mountain Home Junior High School commons area at 1600 E 6th South St., to seek public input on ways to save money in the face of another year of budget cuts from the state.

The 1.6 percent holdback in education funds ordered by Gov. Butch Otter means the district must slash $300,000 in spending between now and the end of June. District officials said that after five years of reduced state revenue the district no longer has any pad left in its budget.

"Everything is on the table," Supt. Tim McMurtrey said. "We're looking for ideas, for areas the public thinks we can make cuts.

  • So...the MHN cites a different location for this than the MHSD web page. So, where is this really going to take place?

Yep, everything is on the table...but where the public needs to be to give input. MHJHS or district office? For the school bond meeting I attended at the district office it was standing room only.

    Anyone? Location?

The district website lists the Junior High as the location for the meeting.

  • Must have been changed. Thank you. One said district office while the other said MHJHS. As long as it was corrected! We do not want to confuse people.
