The Mountain Home Arts Council's Literary Committee is looking for writers and artists to contribute items to its second literary journal, "The Whistle Pig."

The editors of "The Whistle Pig" are seeking original short stories, poems, memoirs, personal musing, drama and other short pieces of writing to include in the journal.

In addition to writing for the issue, the committee is asking visual artists to submit black-and-white art. Art with the theme of "The Whistle Pig" also will be considered for the cover.

The intent of the journal is to showcase local writers and artists.

The editors have established the following guidelines for submissions:

Prose and essays: no more than 8,000 words.

Poetry: Three pages or 1200 Words. Font size: 12 pt., Times New Roman.

Prose is to be double spaced. Poetry can have whatever spacing is required by the work. Include in the upper right hand header on each page the author's name, title of work, and page number. All writing must be production ready.

The editorial committee will make small adjustments in the writing such as spelling, punctuation and usage.

Include a cover sheet with a brief biography (not to exceed 50 words), name, address and contact phone number.

Artwork should be no more than 8 1/2 by 11 inches. The work will be published in black and white. The selection committee for that work will be members of the Visual Arts Committee. All entries, except artwork, are required to be submitted by email only. Artwork may be submitted to the following places: Brown Wrapper, P and C Plumbing and Brenda Raub at Mountain Home High School. If there is a problem with this method of submitting, arrangements will be made.

All entries should be postmarked by March 1.

Email entries to literayarts@mharts.org with subject The Whistle Pig submission. If a submission is printed, the payment will be one copy of "The Whistle Pig."
