Author Deborah Hampton to sign books at city library

Saturday, January 9, 2010

Deborah Baker Hampton, the daughter of Joe B. and Mildred McNeal, will be signing copies of her first self-published book, "God's Praying Cards: Using The Lord's Prayer & Prayer Journal," at the Mountain Home Public Library's commons area on Jan. 15, from 1-5 p.m.

The book is designed to teach people to "pray scriptures and approach both Bible reading and your prayer life in a whole new way," she said. "This is a prayer guide and prayer journal for those who desire to learn how to pray, for those who struggle with prayer and for those who want to take their prayer life to the next level."

Hampton wrote and produced her first public play for Black History Month in 1976, at Mountain Home AFB. It premiered at the Recreational Center using military and civilian personnel. She has written several books, poems and songs for publication.

She is the founder, author, and owner of On Time Productions, a theatrical company that writes, directs and produces full-scale Biblical plays, skits, and monologues. She designs her own sets and makes the props and costumes. Some of her major productions are: To Mend A People; Joseph The Committed; Noah's Ark, and Crucifixion.

Hampton holds a Master of Divinity degree and is currently working on her doctorate. She routinely teaches and preaches in various arenas, and is available to speak and perform for services, workshops, conferences, revivals and retreats.

She was born in Murfreesboro, Tenn., and has three sisters, Ann, Sharon and Stephanie, and one brother, Joseph. She was educated in public schools in the United States and overseas. She received her high school diploma from Wagner High School in the Philippines. She is married to Toney Hampton.

  • Public Library ??? don't tax payers pay for this Library,,why don't she go to church and sell her book there instead of on the tax payers ticket. since we have alot of them poping up in downtown business buildings

  • Hmmm,

Interesting how you're so upset that someone is using the library as if it needs to be closed if someone does a signing. If it was Sarah Palin, I'm sure you'd be the first one there to get your book signed.

How exactly is this hurting or inconveniencing anyone? Just don't go if you don't care. There's 40 churches in this small town, so there might be a few people who are interested and the library is a public facility.

  • Once again I don't know why I even read these blogs. Very rarely is there anything positive. Sometimes I am so ashamed of my fellow man. I am sure there are people all over the world who are as ignorant as some of the people on these blogs. Why would you even care who choses to use the library, isn't it supposed to be a public place for everyone to enjoy? Don't we all pay taxes on the library, as well as Mr. McNeal? I don't go to church but that doesn't mean I might not enjoy being lifted up by such an inspiring young lady. I guess if your life is so unhappy that all you know to do is complain, I feel very sorry for you.

I pray for God's blessing on you.

Thank you Deborah Hampton for sharing your work with us.

Imagine that a book signing at the library....Freedom, the hint here would be that libraries carry books... books are bound papers.

I am so proud that we have a local daughter that is willing to share with us. Thank you Deborah.

  • Wow i cannot believe how ignorant some people in this town are, it trully makes me sick, Mrs. Hampton, who believes in prayer, was influenced to write a book, She is in no way imposing any type of religous beliefs on us.

I trully hope people could stop nagging about the most ridiculous stuff, and open their minds a little bit.
