Lady Tigers extend winning record to six

The Mountain Home Lady Tigers extended their win streak to six last Monday with their 60-32 win over Parma in Lloyd Schiller Gymnasium in Mountain Home.

A 7-0 run by Mountain Home in the last three minutes of the first quarter put the Lady Tigers up 16-6 after a quarter. They had 9-0 and 8-0 runs in the second to push their halftime lead to 35-14.

Mountain Home led 49-26 heading into the fourth and Dakota Barrie's basket with 5:51 left in the game completed a 7-0 run that pushed the lead to 56-26, and kept the clock moving the rest of the game, which ended with a 60-32 Mountain Home win.

Mountain Home Lady Tiger Coach Brent Keener was pleased with the efforts of his Lady Tigers.

"That was a really good ball game. That's a very good 2A team -- I wouldn't be surprised if they don't win state. They've got a couple quality basketball players and I thought we did a pretty good job. Kali (Roche) had her points, but I really thought all of them were outside. We forced her to shoot threes and we kept her off the glass, I think, for the most part."

All nine Mountain Home girls played and eight scored, led by Dakota Barrie with 18 points. Charde Huntington netted 12 points, Shelby Posey added 11, Blas Lord nine, Jessica Liercke four and Rachel Warila, Arlene Futch and Amanda Osborn each scored two points.

The win improved the Lady Tigers to 9-2 on the season. They won't return to action until Jan. 7 at Bishop Kelly.

Despite the fact that his Lady Tigers are playing well right now, Coach Keener is looking forward to the holiday break.

"We're playing so well right now, it's kind of painful to take six days off, but we need a little break, too," the coach said. "It'll be nice for the girls to get some rest and heal up."
