JV Tigers earn win over Jerome, fall to Bishop Kelly in overtime

The Mountain Home Tiger JV boys basketball team picked up its first win of the season last week with a win over Jerome.

They ended up losing to Bishop Kelly in overtime.

Mountain Home 58, Jerome 51

The Mountain Home Tiger JV squad picked up its first win of the young season, downing the Jerome JV 58-51 last Tuesday night in Lloyd Schiller Gymnasium in Mountain Home.

The game went back and forth, with 21 lead changes and seven ties before Mountain Home took the lead late in the third for good and pulled away for the win.

Mountain Home led 14-13 after a quarter, but trailed 29-28 at half-time. Mountain Home scored the last six points of the third quarter to go up 45-39. They built up a 47-40 lead early in the fourth before Jerome hit a couple treys to cut it to one, but Mountain Home hit seven of 10 free throws in the final quarter to hold off Jerome for a 58-51 win.

Ricky Castillo led the Mountain Home scoring with 17 points, Tyler Casey netted 15 and Brent Sexauer, 13. J.T. Cristobal had five points, and Anthony Barboza and Jacob Perry both scored four.

Bishop Kelly 43,

Mountain Home 42 (OT)

In an exciting game that went back-and-forth, the Mountain Home Tiger JV fell short to Bishop Kelly, 43-42 in overtime in their conference boys basketball opener in Lloyd Schiller Gymnasium last Thursday night in Mountain Home.

Mountain Home trailed 11-6 after a quarter and fell behind by eight points early in the second quarter before battling back to tie the game at 19-19. They trailed 23-20 at the half.

The Tigers grabbed the lead at 26-25 on a basket by Ricky Castillo with 5:43 left in the third quarter but fell behind 32-28 at the end of the quarter.

Mountain Home managed to tie the game at 36-36 and tied it up again at 38-38 to force overtime. The Tigers fell behind 43-38 in the overtime period, but battled back to within one, 43-42, before time expired.

Brent Sexauer paced the Tigers with 17 points, J.T. Cristobal and Tyler Casey both netted eight, Ricky Castillo scored seven and Jacob Perry had two points.
