Jerome 51, Mountain Home 40

The Mountain Home Tiger sophomores went over half the first quarter without scoring -- and it cost them -- as they lost to Jerome 51-40 last Tuesday night in Lloyd Schiller Gymnasium in Mountain Home.

Mountain Home went up 2-0 on an opening basket by Michael Daniels, but quickly fell behind, 8-2. They got within five, 10-5, on a basket by Luke Filipovich with 4:16 left in the quarter, but went cold the rest of the quarter and fell behind 20-5. They trailed 28-10 at the half.

Mountain Home played catch-up the rest of the night. After falling behind by 20 early in the third quarter, they battled back to within 13, at 36-23 heading into the fourth. They managed to cut the deficit to nine on a couple occasions in the fourth, but could come no closer as Jerome cashed in on 11 of 16 free throws in the fourth quarter, Mountain Home falling short 51-40.

Alex Rodriguez and Luke Filipovich led the Tigers in scoring with 12 points apiece. Chaise Hopkins and Michael Daniels both scored five points, Jared Day had four and Tony McKenzie added two points.

The Tiger sophomores saw a potential win over Bishop Kelly get away from them in the fourth quarter when they went over six minutes without scoring to lose 36-28 last Thursday night in Lloyd Schiller Gymnasium in Mountain Home.

Mountain Home shot out to a 5-0 lead but the Knights battled back to tie it at 5-5. The first quarter ended with Mountain Home up 9-8. The Tigers stretched their lead to 20-13 at the half.

Mountain Home only scored five points in the third quarter but maintained the lead, 25-23, heading into the final period.

A basket and a free throw by Luke Filipovich put the Tigers up 28-25 with 6:02 left in the game, but they would not score again as the Knights scored the final 11 points of the game to win 36-28.

Luke Filipovich led Mountain Home in scoring with 13 points. Jeff Land added four points, Jared Day, Garrett Burton and Tony McKenzie each scored three and Michael Daniels had two points.

The Tigers were without one of their top scorers, Alex Rodriguez, who was in street clothes wearing a neck brace. Jake Hennessey has been out all season with a broken toe he suffered in football.
