Special quilt will help MHHS boys soccer program

Denise Weise shows of the quilt that will raise funds for the boys team.

A special quilt will be raffled to help benefit the Mountain Home High School boys' soccer program.

The raffle drawing will be held on Monday, Dec. 14. Anyone wishing to purchase tickets can contact Katie Gibbons at 580-2132. Tickets cost $1 each or six for $5.

The quilt was the inspiration of Denise Weise, a third-grade teacher at North Elementary school.

Weise started attending the MHHS boys' soccer games this fall after a former student invited her to come watch him play. She attended the next game with her sister, Brenda Kitchen, and realized she had many former students among the players on the JV and varsity teams.

She continued to attend most of their games to cheer on "her boys."

She and her sister then decided to step up their support by making a quilt, which they donated to the MHHS boys' soccer teams to raffle off, with all proceeds to benefit the MHHS boys' soccer program.

They pieced and put together the quilt, then sent it to a friend in Oregon, who machine-stitched it free of charge, using a soccer stitching pattern. The result was a queen-size quilt in Mountain Home Tiger colors, with a soccer motif.
