Local all-stars shine during East-West football meet

Football fans got their money's worth Saturday at the El Korah Shrine District III East-West Senior All-Star football games at Eagle High School.

The 11-man game went down to an exciting finish when the West's two-point conversion with no time on the clock was no good, allowing the East All-Stars to escape with a 28-27 win.

Mountain Home Tiger seniors Tom Hennessey and Jake Lewis played on the East squad. Hennessey played defensive back, recording some tackles and pass breakups, while Lewis did a steady job on the offensive line.

Mountain Home coaches Brian Floyd, J.T. Taylor and Tyrone Hutchings helped coach the East squad.

In the eight-man football game, the West squad battled back from a 16-6 halftime deficit to slip past the East All-Star squad 20-16.

The East eight-man team had three Rimrock Raider seniors playing on it -- Ricardo Araujo, who played defensive back, quarterback and wide receiver; Allie Pennington, who played on the defensive line; and Brian Simper, who played defensive back during the competition.

Rimrock head football coach Jim Clark was the defensive coordinator for the East squad.

Proceeds from the games go to benefit the Shriners' Hospitals and the Shriners' Hospitals Transportation Fund.
