Presentation by Martin Fewkes: "This year's Idaho Old Time Fiddlers Association (IOTFA) recipient of the Elray Woerman Award for Outstanding Service is Lyle Powell. Lyle was a member of the IOTFA from 1953 to 2009. Lyle was nominated in 2007, 2008, and again in 2009. Unfortunately, Lyle passed away in August this year.

Learning to play as a youngster, Lyle developed his talent and became quite an accomplished guitar player. At fiddle contests and jams, he was in great demand as an accompanist. As a fiddler, Lyle played in several contests. Lyle also played a significant role filling a need here in Mountain Home by playing with other members of the IOTF at retirement homes and at the Senior Center.

Lyle attended the Weiser Fiddle Festival for many years and loved to join in jam sessions. Although Lyle never held office in the IOTFA, his dedication to the fiddlers as a musician and a role model definitely contributed to the quality of the organization. Unfortunately, Lyle is not here with us to share in our appreciation for all his years of creating music for the IOTFA. However, with this award we will always remember Lyle and his dedication to the IOTFA."
