H&W office to be closed Monday

Thursday, October 29, 2009

The Department of Health and Welfare will close Welfare benefit program offices on Monday, Nov. 2, to convert to a new computer system.

The programs that will close include Food Stamps, Medicaid eligibility, cash assistance and child care assistance. All other Health and Welfare programs and offices will remain open.

For people who are receiving public assistance benefits, regularly scheduled benefit payments on Nov. 1 will not be delayed or interrupted as a result of the closures.

For the past three years, the Department of Health and Welfare has been making improvements to the benefit programs' eligibility determination systems and processes. The changes focus on improving business practices and technology to provide better customer service and benefit program accuracy. Benefit program staff will not be available to provide assistance on Nove. 2. Staff will resume work and return calls on Tuesday, Nov. 3.

Applications for assistance will continue to be available for pickup at each office, or can be printed from the Department's website at www.healthandwelfare.idaho.gov. Each office has drop boxes available for dropping off applications or other documents. Applications also may be mailed.
