Wednesday, October 28, 2009

After 30 years of planning and waiting, members of the local Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints broke ground (above) on a new stake center during an official ceremony Oct. 23.

Members of the local Mormon community and city officials participating in the event included, from left, Robin Prindle, Garth Waddoups, David Borgholthaus, Stake President Mel Chick, David Johnson, Terry Fields, Mayor Tom Rist and Mountain Home Public Works Director Wayne Shepherd. Work on the $2.6 million stake building, located on West 8th Street South next to the city theater, started ahead of a planned ground-breaking ceremony to take advantage of the fall weather. Once complete, it will serve as the central administrative facility for the Mormon community's eight wards and two branches based in Mountain Home, Glenns Ferry and Grand View.
