Idaho Fish and Game Conservation officers need help identifying the person or persons involved in dumping an elk near town within the past several days. The animal carcass was located Oct. 17 off Hot Creek Road about five miles from Highway 20.

Authorities are seeking information on the person or persons who dumped an elk near Mountain Home, wasting the carcass.

The elk was found Friday, Oct. 17, off Hot Creek Road about five miles from Highway 20. It is believed it had been dumped some time prior to Wednesday of that week.

The large, mature bull elk had been fully skinned out, but the hide was left and "not an ounce of meat was taken off it," said Idaho Fish and Game Conservation Officer Bob Sellers.

The only thing take were the antlers and eye teeth.

Sellers said it "looks like it had started to spoil and so he (the hunter) dumped it. He didn't know what he was doing to take care of it." There probably was more than one person involved, since the size of the animal would have required help in moving it, he added.

Anyone with any information about the crime is asked to call Sellers at 587-1644 or the Citizens Against Poaching Hotline at 1-800-632-5999.

A reward is possible if the information received leads to a citation being issued.
