Orozco extradition may take some time

Tuesday, October 27, 2009

It could be some time before Jorge Alberto Lopez-Orozco, 33, charged in a 2002 triple murder in Elmore County, is returned to the United States from Mexico to face trial.

Lopez-Orozco currently is in Mexico City facing extradition on the charges in Elmore County. Extradition paperwork is being handled by the United States Department of Justice. DoJ has 60 days from the date of his arrest two weeks ago to submit the extradition packet to Mexican authorities. Elmore County Prosecutor Kristina Schindele is working closely with DoJ officials to prepare the packet. In addition to the local murder charges, Lopez-Orozco also has a federal fugitive warrant out for his arrest.

It's not known at present when the extradition hearing will be held in Mexico.
