Artist's drawing shows what the new stake center will look like.

Following 30 years of waiting and planning, construction began in late September on a new gathering place for the local Mormon community.

Work on the new $2.6 million stake building started ahead of a planned groundbreaking ceremony to take advantage of the fall weather.

The formal ceremony begins at 4 p.m. Oct. 23 at the construction site, located on West 8th Street South next to the city theater. Once complete, the stake center will serve as the central administrative facility for the Mormon community's eight wards and two branches based in Mountain Home, Glenns Ferry and Grand View.

  • Oh Great another cult being brought into a town. And if you don't think this is a cult try to leave the Mormon religion!!! You will be disowned by your family.
