'Sleepy Hollow' opens high school drama presentations

Monday, October 19, 2009
'The Legend of Sleepy Hollow' is set for Oct. 22, 23 and 24.

The MHHS Encore Company will present "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow" Oct. 22, 23 and 24 at 7 p.m. at the high school.

Tickets, $3 for students and $5 for adults, will be sold at the door.

The play tells the story of the arrival of Ichabod Crane (Jared Gales) to a small town where he will attempt to win Katrina's (Alex Smith) heart while the audience discovers his true nature -- he is a gluttonous womanizer. Brom Bones (Frankie Wenner) tries to keep Katrina's interest and put Ichabod in his place with his intimidating description of an encounter with the Headless Horseman. A few surprises in the local graveyard later that night set Ichabod straight.

Under the direction of high school drama instructor Taunya Page, the show is being developed with a 1950s' twist. Spencer Smith, a former graduate of Mountain Home High School, will make his debut as a choreographer and has worked in some high-energy routines to songs such as "Tutti Frutti," "Lollipop" and "Hound Dog."
