X-country runners win at Oregon Invitational

The Mountain Home Tigers cross country team had a successful trip to Vale, Ore., last Tuesday for the Oregon Trail Invitational cross country meet.

The girls won in their division with 26 points while the boys finished second in their category.

Haley Schaefer led the Mountain Home girls, finishing second overall, breaking the tape at 23:42. Kacee Cameron came in third at 24:28 while Shelby McHugh was fifth at 25:22.

Tiana Svetkovich led the Mountain Home girls junior varsity squad, coming in 19th in a time of 29:09.

Weiser won the boys competition, narrowly edging the Tigers with 27 points, Mountain Home finished the day with 29 as Dylan Johnson led the boys with a time of 19:29.

Joe Gutierrez finished second at 19:57 while Jon Dodge finished seventh at 21:10.

Cory Pinque led the Mountain Home JV squad, finishing 23rd with a time of 23:27 while James McGovern came in 26th at 24:19.

The Mountain Home Tigers also competed at the Cascade Forest Classic cross country meet at Cascade Saturday with the girls finishing third with 77 points and the boys taking fourth at 109.

Bishop Kelly won the girls competition with 19 points.

Jordan Vivier led the Mountain Home girls, placing 11th with a time of 22:10. Sarah Richens was 13th at 23:12 while Haley Schaefer came in 16th at 23:31.

Jennica Quintal led the Mountain Home JV girls, finishing 13th in a time of 26:59. Starley Dodge had a new personal best time of 30:32, which placed her 32nd overall.

Bishop Kelly won the boys competition, with 27 points.

Dylan Johnson led Mountain Home boys at 19:51 to finish 17th overall. Joe Gutierrez was 19th at 19:55.

Doug Watkins finished 41st in the boys JV competition at 24:09 while Daniel Courtright set a new person best with his time of 24:45.

"The kids ran well on an extremely tough course," said Tiger cross country coach Doug Root.

The Tigers run at the Bob Firman Invitational this Saturday at Eagle Island State Park.
