Boise man arrested in Hammett

Friday, September 18, 2009

Elmore County Sheriff deputies assisted Idaho State Police troopers in arresting a Boise man in Hammett last Wednesday evening.

Benjamin R. Miele, 23, of Boise, was later booked into the Boise jail and charged with several criminal counts including two felonies.

According to a news release issued by the Boise Police Department, Boise Police were dispatched to a report of a man with a gun at approximately 7 p.m. at a Boise Bench home.

Victims told the police that Meile, who is known to the victims, allegedly battered an adult female resident using his fists and feet before grabbing a shotgun and firing the weapon into the floor. Meile also allegedly threatened two other adults with the shotgun before stealing a vehicle and fleeing the scene with the weapon.

Authorities were at the home of a family member when Miele called there, according to Elmore County Deputy Kevin Hensley. The suspect told the family member that he had encountered car problems and was at the Hammett Valley Store.

A call to Elmore County Dispatch alerted deputies to Miele's whereabouts, and apprised them of the situation. They also were told that Miele should be considered armed and dangerous, Hensley said.

Hensley, along with Deputy Alan Long and an ISP trooper, responded to the scene and waiting for backup, after which Miele was taken into custody without incident, Hensley said. He was transported back to Boise by an ISP trooper and booked into the Boise jail.

Meile is charged with two felony counts of aggravated assault, domestic battery and grand theft.

Officers also discovered that Miele had a current no-contact order in common with one of the victims and that there was a warrant out for his arrest on an unrelated probation violation.

Awesome teamwork by all the different law enforcement agencies. Good job to the family member in Hammett. I know it is difficult to "do the right" thing and my thoughts and prayers go out to you.
