Net woes plague Lady Tigers, fall against Columbia, Skyview

The Mountain Home Lady Tigers dropped conference volleyball matches at Columbia and Skyview last week.

Columbia 3, Mountain Home 1

In a close conference volleyball match at Columbia High School last Tuesday, the Lady Tigers lost 3-1 to the Lady Wildcats. Mountain Home battled tough in the first game, finally pulling it out 32-30. They came up short in the next three games, losing 20-25, 18-25, and 22-25.

Nickayla Skinner had 17 assists, was 8/8 on serves, with one ace, had four kills, a block and seven digs. Blas Lord served six aces on 11 of 14 serves, had 12 kills and nine digs. Arlene Futch served 14 of 16 serves, with seven aces, five kills and three digs.

Tanya McKenzie was 14/15 serving, with an ace, a block, a kill and 10 digs. Alexis Ruffing was 11.14 serving and had nine digs. Caitlin Kreyche was 8/8 on serves, with an ace, three kills, a block and two digs. Jessica Liercke was 1/1 serving, with an ace, a block and a dig, and Dylan Dean had three blocks and a kill.

Skyview 3, Mountain Home 0

The Lady Tigers came up short at Skyview Thursday night, losing to the Lady Hawks 3-0. Mountain Home dropped the first game, 15-25, lost a close 23-25 second game, and dropped the third game 18-25.

Nickayla Skinner had 12 assists on the night and was 5/5 on serves and had 10 digs. Blas Lord was 7/8 serving with one ace, five blocks, four kills and three digs. Jessica Liercke had four blocks, three kills and three digs. Alexis Ruffing had an ace, a kill and 12 digs, Arlene Futch was 9/11 on serves with three aces, three kills and two digs, Shelby Roberts was 8/10 serving, had four aces, three digs, a block and a kill, Caitlin Kreyche was 2/2 serving with four kills and two digs, Tanya McKenzie was 5/7 serving with two aces, and four digs, and Dylan Dean had two blocks, a kill and and a dig.

Tournament results

The Mountain Home Lady Tigers placed fifth out of 18 teams that competed in the Twin Falls Volleyball Tournament at Twin Falls Saturday.

With each game going a certain time limit, Mountain Home beat Gooding (35-29), Canyon Ridge (37-26), Weiser (33-31), Twin Falls #2 (33-31), and Filer (30-25). The team lost to Kuna (28-34), Kimberly (28-36), and Twin Falls (24-37).

"The girls played very well," said Lady Tiger volleyball coach Rachel Asbury, "but missed serves hurt us in the end. Filer ended up winning the whole tournament, and we beat them." Mountain Home hosted Middleton in conference volleyball last Tuesday night, travels to Emmett Thursday night, and go to the Wood River Invitational Tourney in Hailey on Friday and Saturday.
