Public meeting on Y plan is tonight

Wednesday, September 16, 2009

The Community Leadership Development Committee (CLDC) is inviting the public to take part in a special meeting tonight, Sept. 16, from 6-8 p.m. at the Mountain Home High School gymnasium to explain the process for possibly bringing a YMCA to the community.

The group is working for the Treasure Valley YMCA to put together recommendations for the Western Elmore County Recreation District.

The Y is under contract with the WECRD to analyze the need for various programs in the area and the financial feasibility of implementing them. Among the things it will look at is the WECRD proposal for a community center with a swimming pool, but the group is not limiting itself to only that aspect of identifying youth and family programs for the year.

"Questions (from the public) will be gladly taken," said CLDC co-chairman Alan Bermensolo. "This is a transparent group."

  • I'm still not sure what the WECRD involment in all this is...just funding from all the taxes they have collected? It seems that the WECRD could be removed from the equasion still, and the CLDC could continue to work with the "Y."

I was hoping, from this meeting to understand that there was a need for the WECRD--
