JV Tigers roar to 27-7 win

The Mountain Home Tigers junior varsity football team opened its season last Thursday night with a 27-7 win over the Jerome JV at Tiger Field in Mountain Home.

Mountain Home took the lead in the first quarter, Alex Rodriguez tossing to Tyler Knauth for a seven-yard touchdown pass. Rodriguez made it 12-0, Mountain Home, with a one-yard touchdown run in the second quarter.

Jerome got on the scoreboard in the second quarter on a 15-yard pass play to make it 12-7, Mountain Home, at halftime.

Mountain Home scored in the third quarter on a 13-yard touchdown pass from Alex Rodriguez to Luke Filipovich. Rodriguez then passed to Tyler Knauth for the two-point conversion to make it 20-7, Mountain Home.

Mountain Home added another score in the fourth quarter as DJ Hale scored on a 20-yard run. Austin Clark booted the PAT to make it a 27-7 final.

Mountain Home JV head football coach Dallan Rupp was happy to open the season with a win.

"It was a good performance on an opening game. The offense put together some good drives, and the defense held Jerome to only seven points and 14 yards rushing. We have to make some improvements, but overall, it was a strong showing in the first game."

Mountain Home rushed the ball 47 times for 207 yards. DJ Hale led the way with 93 yards and a touchdown in 23 carries. Austin Clark rushed the ball 14 times for 55 yards. Alex Rodriguez had four rushes for 40 yards and a score.

Meanwhile, John Payton carried the ball six times for 19 yards.

Alex Rodriguez completed nine of 15 passes for 81 yards and two touchdowns. He also had two passes picked off. Luke Filipovich caught three passes for 29 yards and a score, Tyler Knauth had two receptions for 13 yards and a score, James Simon caught two passes for 17 yards and Ricky Castillo had one catch for 22 yards.

Defensively, Jesse Corbett led Mountain Home with nine tackles. Dakota Ramos had six tackles, Tyler Knauth had five, James Wright, RJ Aflague and Jon Ryan each had four tackles, Ricky Castillo had three tackles and picked off two passes while James Simon had two tackles and an interception.

Mountain Home held Jerome to just 14 yards rushing and 101 yards passing.
