New animal shelter team making wonderful effort

Wednesday, September 9, 2009

Dear editor:

My wife and I have been doing volunteer work at the Mountain Home Animal Shelter for over two years.

During this period, we have seen two shelter managers come and go with no improvements made to the shelter.

Although the current manager, Danniele Ratigan, has only been in the manager position for a short period of time, Danniele and her staff have made many improvements to the shelter.

The kennels now have beds for the dogs so they won't have to lie on the cement floor; there was a new dog run installed; the interior of the shelter was painted, the interior and exterior of the administrative office was painted; the parking lot has been paved; and most recently, a fenced area has been added to allow people who are interested in adopting a dog to spend time with the dog off the leash.

All of these improvements have enhanced the operation of the animal shelter, as well as adding to the comfort of our four-legged friends who spend time there.

It is my understanding that most, if not all, of these improvements were completed from donations from the local community.

If any of my tax dollars goes to the operation of the animal shelter, I consider my money well spent.

Congratulations to the animal shelter staff for a job well done.
