School district confirms cases of swine flu

Wednesday, September 9, 2009

The Mountain Home School District has confirmed several cases of the H1N1 "swine flu" virus among students in the schools.

Although the district has not had any school nurses on staff for more than a decade, administrators have been trained to help spot the symptoms of the virus, and special precautions have been taken at the schools to limit its spread, including extra cleaning efforts by the janitors.

The virus can cause a wide range of symptoms, including fever, cough, sore throat, body aches, headache, chills and fatigue. Some people have reported diarrhea and vomiting associated with H1N1 flu.

See the Mountain Home News for the complete story.

  • Despite what the news, the school district, or any letters sent home, this is all bunk. Children with confirmed cases of infleunza is not the same as having swine flu.

If the local public health departments (both on base and off) know absolutely nothing about confirmed swine flu cases in the school districts.. then its obviously a bad rumour.

They weren't just "confirmed cases of influenza" they were actual H1N1.

A family my family is close to had it. 2 of their children go to school. 1 in the Junior High, one in Hacker, and then a few people here at the high school have it.

  • Both my kids and my husband had this towords the end of the summer aside from the high fever the kids had (105 ish at the worst ) it wasnt that bad. We've had run ins with the regular flu that were way worse. The method of testing is unpleasent as they end up swabbing your nasal pasages with a qtip thingy on the end of a wire several times , at leats once for the dr and once for the cdc but really it wasnt that bad. maybe they got lucky and just had a mild case i dont know.
