Teens injured when their car hits business building

Ambulane crews work on the driver and passengers injured in the crash.

Three of four teenagers in a red Pontiac Grand Am were injured when their car crashed into the Xpress Cash building at 1815 American Legion Blvd. just after 3 p.m. Wednesday.

Initial reports indicated the vehicle failed to make a lefthand turn from N. 18th East Street to eastbound American Legion Boulevard. The vehicle went over the curb and landscaping in front of the building, then drove up the elevated concrete steps to the business, and hit the front wall of the building.

The three teens appeared to have suffered head and neck injuries and some lacerations, but none of the injuries appeared serious at the scene. The three were transported to Elmore Medical Center for further evaluation and treatment. The fourth teen in the vehicle was not injured. He said he was wearing a seat belt. It was not immediately known if the others were wearing seat belts.

The exact cause of the accident was not immediately known. The investigation is underway. More details can be found in next week's Mountain Home News.

This was crazy! We were sitting at our desks, walked out and wham! Pretty nuts cause an hour before we were over at Xpress Cash complaining that their customers almost drive in our front door all the time. We share a building with them.and then some one drives in theirs.

My question is, were they wearing their seatbelts?? The word I heard was no, only one of the four were wearing safety restraints. I think there should be an ordinance for this; if your under the age of 18, you can only have one passenger in the vehicle. And if you are found at fault for any accident up to the age of 18, you lose your license until 18. I know 18 is still young, but at least we would get the "Im 16 and ruler of the road" kids off the road.

  • "if your under the age of 18, you can only have one passenger in the vehicle." Right now you can only have 1 passenger under 17 in your vehicle for the first 6 months you have your licence. Honestly, that rule until I turn 18 would be really inconnvientiet. As teens, we do lots of stuff together. Not all of us are terrible, irresponsible dumb drivers.
