Sheriff takes huge cut in county budget
Anticipating reduced revenues, the Elmore County Commissioners have proposed a budget that is $974,011 less than last year, with the sheriff's department taking the biggest hit among all the cuts the county has made.
"We cut back because we know the revenue won't be there," said Commissioner Arlie Shaw. With the state anticipating a 12 percent drop in revenue, which is reflected in sales tax and revenue sharing funds allocated to the county, combined with a major reduction in fees for building permits, "almost everybody took some kind of a hit," to make the books balance, Shaw said, with most departments seeing an average of a 7-8 percent drop in their budgets.
