Sand Hollow Fire Grows to 800 Acres

The Sand Hollow Fire continues to burn in rough terrain just outside Emmett, Idaho. At 10:30 AM the size of the fire is estimated at 800 acres. Aviation resources were able to get off the ground this morning and are attacking the blaze from the air while fire engines, hand crews and dozers continue to work on the ground. The cause of the fire is still under investigation, but no lightning strikes were recorded in the area. At the time of this release, there are no longer any structures threatened and no evacuations were issued.

Current federal resources on the Sand Hollow Fire include: 6 heavy engines, 2 dozers, 1 water tender, 2 battalion chiefs, 2 Type 1 hand crews, 2 Type 2 hand crews, 2 helicopters, 1 air attack, and 5 single engine air tankers. Local fire departments from Emmett, Gem County, and Star provided structure protection and additional fire support with 6 engines, 2 water tenders, and command personnel. Those local fire department resources have been released from the fire at this time. One lead plane and a heavy air tanker have been ordered.

The fire started 1.5 miles east of Emmett, ID at approximately 7:30 PM on Wednesday, August 26. There is currently no estimated contain or control time for the Sand Hollow Fire.
