Local runner completes 100 mile race

Thursday, August 27, 2009

Charlie Francisco recently competed in the Lean Horse 100 ultra-marathon held in Hot Springs, South Dakota on August 22nd and 23rd. His time of 27 hours 25 minutes and 24 seconds solidified his 3rd place age group finish. The grueling run saw temperatures exceed 100 degrees which undoubtedly was a factor in 41 of the 119 participants being unable to complete the race.

Key to Charlie's success was his wife Sherry who made the 2,182 mile round trip with him to provide road crew support for him as he ran. Both Charlie and Sherry live in Mountain Home and are members of the Mountain Home Running Club which trains year round locally.

The Mountain Home Running Club meets on Saturday at 8:30 a.m. and Sunday at 9 a.m. at the greenbelt start (North 3rd East and McMurtrey Road). There are no membership fees or dues and anyone is invited to join.
