Library wraps up summer reading effort

Saturday, August 15, 2009

The Summer Reading Program for 2009 saw over 450 reports given to staff at the Mountain Home Public Library and more than 1,600 books circulated.

Including the craft, science projects, movies and technology days, the library was a "very busy place," library aide Bianca Brito said, adding, "the final Family Night event was a great success with everyone getting together to eat Sopapillas, blow bubbles, listen to a story and get creative with sidewalk chalk."

In honor of the first Talking Book Service Awareness Day on Monday, Aug. 17, the library will hold an open house from 3-4:30 p.m. using the theme, "Beat the Heat: How to Survive after 45." The event includes activities and summer refreshments.

The library is inviting the community to attend and learn more about the Idaho Commission For Libraries Talking Book Service and local resources that can be used by TBS users. The library also will host a talk by Dr. Jeffrey Gibbons of the Elmore County Eye Clinic, who will give a slide show and presentation on Macular Degeneration. Dr. Gibbons will be available to answer eye care questions as well.

August will be a busy month with the library staff gearing up for its regular programs: Story Time Club, Little Ones/Lapsit, Bilingual Preschool and the outreach read at Cedar Crest Residential Care Center.

For information on those and other programs at the library call 587-4716 or visit its website at www.mhlibrary.org.
